It was with sadness that we heard of the passing of artist Basil Gogos. His classic horror art has wowed many over the years, including Rob Zombie, who commissioned Gogos to do the artwork for his first solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe.

He paid this tribute:

Seems like every day I wake up to to the horrible news that another friend has died. Today I found out the great Basil Gogos had left us. This is very sad. He was the nicest guy. I can always remember his happy, raspy voice on the phone “Hey Rob. It’s Basil !”. He would always send me and Sheri a Christmas card with a special sketch inside. Usually Frankenstein.

Over the years I commissioned quite a few painting from him (Herman Munster, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman) including the main image of my career the cover of Hellbilly Deluxe. It wouldn’t have been the same without it.

He was the master. Another horror legend gone.

Rob also shared an image of the Wolfman which Basil painted as a gift. To see the image, and leave your own tribute, click >>> (more…)

RIP Irwin Keyes – goodbye to another friend

Irwin Keyes

Irwin Keyes

It is with sadness we hear of the passing of another friend – actor Irwin Keyes. Rob Zombie reflects on the news “I have just heard the terrible news that our friend Irwin Keyes has passed away. Irwin was a cool guy and a big part of the House of 1000 Corpses family. He will be missed by us all.”

Keyes made his screen debut in the 1979 cult classic “The Warriors” but also worked with Woody Allen, the Coen Brothers and of course with Rob Zombie as Ravelli in House of 1000 Corpses. Our thoughts are with his wife Tracey Fontaine and his family.

Today we learn of the passing of actor Geoffrey Lewis, who appeared in many films including “Every Which Way But Loose” and “Any Which Way You Can”, “Heaven’s Gate” and his appearances in Rob Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects,” and “The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.”

Rob reflects; “I can’t believe this, but our pal Geoffrey Lewis has passed away. Geoffrey was a great guy and I was thrilled be able to work with him“.

Our thoughts go out to Geoffrey’s family, especially his wife Paula, and his children, including daughter – the actress – Juliette Lewis.
