Rob Zombie pays touching tribute to Hellbilly Deluxe artist Basil Gogos

Hellbilly Deluxe: 13 Tales of Cadaverous Cavorting Inside Spookshow International

Hellbilly Deluxe: 13 Tales of Cadaverous Cavorting Inside Spookshow International

It was with sadness that we heard of the passing of artist Basil Gogos. His classic horror art has wowed many over the years, including Rob Zombie, who commissioned Gogos to do the artwork for his first solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe.

He paid this tribute:

Seems like every day I wake up to to the horrible news that another friend has died. Today I found out the great Basil Gogos had left us. This is very sad. He was the nicest guy. I can always remember his happy, raspy voice on the phone “Hey Rob. It’s Basil !”. He would always send me and Sheri a Christmas card with a special sketch inside. Usually Frankenstein.

Over the years I commissioned quite a few painting from him (Herman Munster, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman) including the main image of my career the cover of Hellbilly Deluxe. It wouldn’t have been the same without it.

He was the master. Another horror legend gone.

Rob also shared an image of the Wolfman which Basil painted as a gift. To see the image, and leave your own tribute, click >>> (more…)

10 years on: Rob Zombie’s Halloween still dominates Labor Day Box Office

Halloween Rob Zombie Labor Day Weekend 2017 results

Halloween Rob Zombie Labor Day Weekend 2017 results

When Rob Zombie’s Halloween was released over the Labor Day Weekend in 2007, it broke box office records for this holiday weekend in the US.

And it has continued to do so year after year.

Other movies have tried to beat Halloween, which had a Labor Day box office result of $30.5 million, but they have all failed. Valiant attempts have been made by such contenders as The Possession, Morgan, Lawless, Don’t Breathe and a teeny-tiny pop band called One Direction, but none have managed to topple Big Mike.

Congratulations to The Hitman’s Bodyguard which *topped 2017’s weekend box office results for September 1 – 4, but also commiserations and good luck to whoever wants to try to take the mantle next year.

A decade on from Halloweens release, thank you for helping make Rob Zombie’s Halloween a success. Don’t forget to check out the movie and more info on here it here: Rob Zombie’s Halloween movie page.

Halloween turns ten years old

Rob Zombie Halloween 2007 tenth anniversary 2017

Rob Zombie Halloween 2007 tenth anniversary 2017

On August 31, 2007, Rob Zombie unleashed his vision of Michael Myers onto the movie screens.

His origin story, a reimagining of the John Carpenter classic, looked further back at the childhood of Myers as well as following Myers as he wrecked bloody revenge on his hometown of Haddonfield that fateful Halloween night.

In Zombie’s version, the role of the Myers (originally only credited as ‘The Shape’ in Carpenter’s 1978 film), was played by Tyler Mane. Mane in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly said of working with Zombie “he’s a fantastic guy, a great director, he’s got his vision, he knows what he wants, and he put together a great team. Just working with Scout and Malcolm and everyone, it was a fantastic experience.” The film also saw appearances from Scout Taylor-Compton who played Myers unknowing baby sister Laurie Strode, Sheri Moon Zombie as Debbie Myers, Daeg Faerch who played the pre-pubescent killer Myers who slaughters his family and Malcolm McDowell who played Dr Samuel Loomis.

Halloween, released over the Labor Day Weekend, broke box office records at the time and continues to do so: robzombie.com/2016/09/top-again-for-labor-day. Can Michael make it ten years at the top this year?

Rob Zombie pays tribute to Tobe Hooper

Rob Zombie Tobe Hooper

Rob Zombie Tobe Hooper

From Rob Zombie:

[I met] Tobe Hooper for the first time after the premiere of House of 1000 Corpses back in 2003. He gave me a great quote which I used on the DVD box. “At last an honest horror movie that relentlessly delivers the goods! One hell of a great horror movie. I was blown away by that quote. Such a nice guy. I gonna miss him.

Rolling Stone contacted me late yesterday to write a story on Tobe Hooper. Of course, I said yes. In my early film days, Tobe was the first director to be supportive of me. It was an honor to do this for him.

Give it a read.

The Lords of Salem featured in NY Times horror movie list

Rob Zombies The Lords of Salem

Rob Zombie’s 2013 movie The Lords of Salem has been featured in an article via the NY Times, as it considers a list of horror movies you may have missed but which are still “worthy additions to the horror canon“.

In the article the NY Times states: “The rocker-turned-director Rob Zombie (“The Devil’s Rejects”) may have a reputation for extreme horror, but “Lords of Salem” isn’t a blood bath, at least not at first” and concludes: “This film has more ambience than a typical Zombie offering; it’s only in the final third that the director uncorks the covens and satanic rituals that have earned the town its reputation.”
